Current Initiatives

GPNZ is continually looking for new and improved ways to lead general practice into a viable and sustainable future.  Current initiatives that GPNZ is involved in include:

Driving Clinical Integration

GPNZ is working closely with the Ministry of Health on its Driving Clinical Integration work programme.  This work programme aims to establish an integrated healthcare system with person-centered care, in which care is delivered closer to home by trusted, motivated health professionals working together in an effective, efficient manner.  This builds on the alliancing approach that is being extended across the country.  The implementation vehicle for this work is the revised PHO Services Agreement that came into effect from 1 July 2013 and was updated from 1 July 2014.  GPNZ has dedicated significant resources to work with sector leaders and the Ministry of Health to support this work programme.

Policy Changes within Central Government

GPNZ works closely with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Development and ACC to advise on policy changes that affect primary care and general practice.  Our advice is informed by regular discussions with our member Networks at CEO and Chair level, our wider sector and cross sector contacts, and discussions within the General Practice Leaders Forum.

Current activity streams includes:

  • Driving Clinical Integration
  • Integrated Performance and Incentives Framework (IPIF)
  • Children’s Action Plan and implementing the Vulnerable Children’s Act
  • Free Under 13 policy
  • Health Information.
